Had a friend who is a machinist cut them down to the same compression height as 360 pistons( dont recall the amount taken off but the but the crown was still thicker than either the stock 360 or 318 pistons). I picked up a set of pistons someone had bought to rebuild their engine and then changed their mind so I got them cheap. I built this combination about 15 years ago. I will do another roller 318 block, the cop engine still runs fine with over 300,000 miles, but is getting a little tired with small amount of blow by now Silvolight has pistons #1278/1.658 comp height/.030 over boreīy useing the stroker piston with the 360 comp height will that make it not stick out the bore like a stock 318 piston will?(IIRC,baxter stroker combo put it +5 out the hole and a thick gasket open chamber 360 head and it would work) In my notes from a while back I had this wrote down but dont remember much about it nowģ60 crank & rods with seald power LC371P pistons/same comp height as 360-pistons are 20 grams of each other for balance I was thinking of the stock pistons you mentioned I think you gave me a run down a long while back on it baxter Other than that I would not do it but there are a lot of ifs there. Same with the chevy 383 guys, why would you de-bore a 360 or in the chevy case de-bore a 400? Mabey if a guy happened to have a turned down 360 crank left over from someone that had a 340 stroker before there were 4 inch cranks and he happened to have a set of oversized pistons sitting around that would fit the 318 block he also happened to have sitting around with just a bore job, and you happened to have a set of rings bearings and gaskets for a 318 block, and he really needed a new motor anyhow then you could justify boreing the block and balancing it for $400+ (depending on how much metal you had to add), and have a decent fresh motor.

I have never been able to figure out the reasoning for this stroker, it is a lot of hassle for 21 cubes. If you skip balancing it MIGHT be ok at low RPM but you will probably feel vibrations starting in the mid range and get worse as the RPM increases. Mabey cheaper to get a set of SCAT I beams to lighten it up enough that you don't need to add weight and that will offset the cost of the far superior to stock rods. The 318 piston is heavier than a 360 piston so they will probably have to add weight to the crank to get even an external balance. Now a technical answer to your question is get the silvolite 318 replacement piston and get the crank turned down than balance it. Heck I have a really nice low miles 360 roller LA short block I can't seem to get rid of for $300. I see complete running 360s for $100-$400 here all the time, cutting the 360 crank and balancing alone will cost that or more. Even a 360 short block could help a bunch and be cheaper than just getting the crank turned and balanced not to mention boreing and buying the pistons and a gasket set(assumeing you have a 360 crank). Why not just throw a set of 273/318 closed chamber heads on it, they will help your tq and cost a lot less.
